I need a dictionary!

I am a newbee and a little bit loss whit all
those terms. I would like to know what the
Abbreviation means, from what kind of program
It is issued, what purposes it serves (or when to use it?)
Ex: .d2v ;means ? ? ? ,can be produced by a program
such as DVD2avi and can be used for encoding
resulting in a video file called mpg (a file you can
actually watch !)
terms: .d2v avi mpeg mpeg1 mpeg2 wave mp2
mp3 and whatever you think could be useful.
