Hello.
I just successfully installed my brand new TDK 880 8x/8x burner into my computer, and I have downloaded the newest versions of DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. I think that I know how to rip the files to my HDD with Decrypter, and I think I know how to comprtess with DVD shrink...
My question: Can I use Roxio 6 to burn the files that DVD Shrink creates??? Everybody around here says how much Roxio sucks, but it's the only program that came with my Drive.
Please Help! I'm clearing files off my HDD in anticipation of my first burn, if I cannot burn with Roxio 6...then what should I get? Is there any freeware that can do it?
THANKS A MILLION in advance.

I use only DVD Shrink. Decrypter is not required as shrink with rip the dvd by itself. If you switch to Nero, Shrink with also burn the disk for you all in a single operation. I Rip the DVD from a DVD rom drive and burn with my NEC 4x External USB 2 drive. I pop the blank in it as I an ripping from the rom drive. As soon as it is done ripping the parts of DVD you wan it preceeds to burn it. I do not use Roxio. Roxio has some issues with other programs.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
Yeah, DVDDecrypter can burn for you. If you have to run the movie thru DVDShrink to reauthor/delete extras/reduce file size, you'd need to make an ISO image first before burning with DVDDecrypter. No problemo, do it with ImgTool Classic. Both are freeware. If the movie isn't too big, you can just rip/burn in ISO mode with Decrypter.
I've normally used Instant Copy heretofore, but it has an annoying habit of re-encoding sometimes. So I more and more often do the extra step of making an ISO and burning that. And if the ImgTool/DVDDecrypter method doesn't work, nothing will. Something else is wrong.
Wouldn't bother with Roxio personally, it's rep isn't good. BTW, you'll find that an extra harddrive would be useful.Good luck.

The method I use is pretty easy, everthing is freeware. Use Autoshrink ISO, DVDshrink, and DVDdecrypter to burn. Works automatically after you have made your choices in DVDshrink. It is very handy if you have both a DVD rom and a seperate DVD burner.

THIS IS SO F**KING COOL.
Now I'll have to try a DVD that needs to be compressed?
Does anybody see problem using this method? The DVD-R played perfectly on both of the players that I've tried. Do I reduce broad compatability by using Roxio??

Hell Yeah.
Just burned a backup of a movie onto a DVD+R at 6X and it WORKED on both of my DVD player as well.
Snaps.

strike, you are using the same method that I use and I have yet to get a coaster after a couple months of steady burning.

the problem with Roxio is that it doesn't burn the correct UDF format, unless that fixed last I used it. That's usually not a problem with most newer DVD players but older players don't often support any UDF format but 1.02 and I Roxio burns it in 1.05/1.5

Glad you got it working, but I was initially using the same method as you (DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, Roxio 6 to burn) and I burnt two coasters. Got rid of Roxio and started using CopyToDVD to burn and haven't had a problem since. I ripped, shrunk and burnt four DVD's this past weekend with no problems using the new methods.
Several people here say use Shrink only, but Shrink had problems decrypting two of my DVD's, but Decrypter had no problem with them. So for now, I'm going to leave that extra step in there just to be safe. I also re-installed Nero 5.5 and will try that on my next burn. I guess there are so many factors involved that not all solutions will work for everyone. You just have to find one that works for you, and it appears that you have. Good luck! -
