  1. Hi ppl,

A short while ago I bought the "Alien Quadrilogy" box set on region 2 DVD and found that all 4 films had playback problems in all my players, which are:

    Cyberhome CH 400
    Sony DVPNS330
    Technosonic 802C

I took the box set back to the shop where they replaced it, but the same problems occured again. I took it back a 2nd time and just got a refund. Then I bought all of them individually (Directors Cut's) off the net and when they arrived I played them....and guess what....yep, the same problems. I even backed up Alien 1 (main title) onto a DVD-RW but it was just the same as the original.

The problems (as best as i can describe them) are as follows:

1/2 second dropouts in the sound,
video slightly speeds up in places
very slight pauses (not just on the layer transition)

The Alien films are amongst my favourite films and i'm truly gutted about the whole affair, and would like to know if I am the only 1 who is having problems with these films... Thx

  4. I bought this set and the same thing happens to me .. so u r not alone in this. I have the cyberhome player same as u, where i get the speed up issue u describe. Also, i played part of Alien 1 on a Samsung HT system and it actually played one scene twice.. what gives ? !!
By the way it plays faultlessly from powerDVD on the PC.

  5. i believe that HMV were recalling the box set as a set of authoring errors had occured.
not too sure bout other stores, but they refused to sell one of them to a friend of mine, stating that they were faulty.
might be a problem for a while till they get it sorted.
i remember "shakespeare in love" wouldnt work on any players but pioneer when i was released, but they sorted that after a few months.
thats one movie youll see in the sales for like £5.

  6. I even mailed "FOX" but they never replied and im absolutely fuming coz i have these 4 films that just happened to b amongst my favourite films of all time and i refuse to watch them. I am at the moment trying to sort out a refund with the online store i got them at.

On a brighter note you might want to have a look here for the original DVD's which i'm sure dont have "Seamless Branching" (which imo btw is ne thing but seamless) and should play fine. http://www.globalvideo.co.uk/search/index.cfm

    Hope this helps
