  1. I wake up and all of a sudden the sound on my computer isnt working. When i click on the mixer audio control on the right side of the toolbar, it says, "There are no active Mixer devices avaliable. To install mixer devices, Go to Control Panel, click Printers and other devices, and then click Add Hardware."

Well im using windows XP and something like this has happened before where i dont get sound...but i get little blips of sound for error messages...for example, a little "ding" happens when i get that message.

So i went through all the steps of troubleshooting but nothing worked. I think its the driver. In Conrol Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Everything in the Volume, Audio, and Voice tabs is greyed out. In the Hardware tab, there are names of different drivers for audio, video, codecs, etc. The audio driver, called "Legacy Audio Driver" when highlited says the device is working properly, when its obviously not. When opening the properties of this driver, on the bottom the option for "Device Usage" is greyed out as well. And in the properties tab (withing the propeties window) there is nothing there, whereas in the video driver or audio/video codecs, there are .dlls there.

I tried updating the driver very simply, but it told me there were no better options for taht driver. There are no rollback options.

What the hell?? I had this problem a few months ago, i just updated/reinstalled the driver (i dont remember which or how), and it worked fine. So whats the deal? Why did my sound disapear and how do i get it back?
