  1. I recently purchased a dvd writer after a couple of years of making (s)vcd's and am obviously interested in creating dvd's now. I have followed the tmpgenc procedures along with extracting audio using virtualdub. I use tmpgenc dvd author to create the dvd files using the mpg that tmpgenc spits out. Unfortunately, the Audio_TS folder is empty. I can view the video just fine but there is no sound obviously. Anything obvious that I am doing incorrectly?

The audio_ts should be empty. It is only used for the DVD-Audio format and not DVD-Video.

Do you hear any sound if you play the mpg before authoring?

  4. At first I didn't extract the audio with virtualdub. When I played the movie, the video was fine and there was audio for 3 seconds and then nothing. Now I have used virtualdub to extract the audio and will attempt again. Thanks for your help. I basically needed confirmation that Audio_TS is supposed to be empty.

Will placing a text file in the AUDIO_TS folder cause a problem for players? I havent had any playback problems on my own set top players when doing this, but what about the rest of the players out there? I know DVD-Video doesn't use this folder for anything, but was just wondering if altering the file structure by placing files in a folder that's supposed to be empty for DVD-Video causes problems for any other players out there.

you can put anything you want in the root or any other folder -- thats ok , but you shouldnt really put anything but what is supposed to be there in VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (but i doubt it will hurt anything in AUDIO_TS)

I put files all the time in the audio_ts folder when I am burning a DVD-RW because my player won't read DVD-RW unless there is at least 4 GB of data on it.
I am happy to report I never any problem on playing any of these disks on any of the DVD players I had access to.
