When authoring a movie DVD, composed of multiple clips, must the clips all be of the same video/audio bitrates?

No, you can mix. If you are going to mix different resolutions or/and mpeg1/mpeg2 you must create seprate titles/tracks(TMPGEnc DVD Author supports that). You can not mix PAL and NTSC, well you can but it wouldn't be standard dvd.

Why would you want to do that?
Thanks for your prompt reply, much appreciated.
So if I understand correctly I could have one clip at 4000 kb/s video and 384 kb/s audio and a second clip at 1600 kb/s video and 224 kb/s audio?

P.s. I'm using DVD Movie Factory 3 (I'm a bit thick so I find it easier than TMPGEnc DVD Author).

  4. yup... as long as each clip is loaded into TDA as a separate track.

  5. I want to mix both NTSC and PAL MPEG-1 VCD type files on one DVD. I am aware that TMPGEnc DVD Author and most other software will not allow that. I have more NTSC MPEG-1 files than PAL files, so how do I 'patch' each PAL file or hack some DVD author software so that I can make this DVD ?
The guide "How To Use DVD Patcher to Create Mixed DVD’s" is good for MPEG-2 but is it good for MPEG-1 video?

My standalone DVD player can play mixed NTSC/PAL VCD to a NTSC television just fine...
