  1. I was installing this codecpack, found at http://www.anime-xtreme.com/gamrcodecpack-20031128.zip.

I needed it to play mkv and ogm files. When it tried to install XviD codec, an error came up saying:

    "NSIS ERROR
    Installer verification failed.
This could be the result of an incomplete download, a failing disk, or (possibly) corruption from a virus.

You can try to force an install using the /NCRC command line switch (but is NOT recommended)"

I also get this message if I try to uninstall it, or install a new version over it. Can anyone help me get it installed and get the new codec pack working? Thanks in advance. I asked on the anime=xtreme forum, but they're no help.

  2. Download and install a legitimate XviD, then reboot and try an immediate Uninstall. The REAL XviD might fix the uninstaller.

Next, delete the codec pack, and find a large hammer to hit yourself in the head with. (Our goal here is to destroy the brain cells that retain your memory of this codec pack)

Here's a link to Nic's XviD (It was handy!)
    http://nic.dnsalias.com/XviD_Install.exe

Here is the Ogg DirectShow package from Tobias:

Let the people who know how the codecs work install them.

Don't be too discouraged, the reason people hate codec packs, is that we've all been burned once by them! Never again!

  3. Almost forgot!

Then remnants of the NSIS installer are most likely found at the registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

  4. I finally had a look at this codec pack. It's not really an installer, it collects whole packages from around the net.

It's actually kinda clever but would fail if the paths involved were to change. I don't think this one is dumb, i think the included XviD got mangled in the download.

If you still want to use this, download and install XviD and it will overwrite the part that failed.
