I have just borrowed a bunch of SVCDs from a friend and found that I can get 'track information' (i.e remaining time) from his disks when playing on my Pioneer 545 DVD player.

However, with the disks I authored using WinOnCD or Nero, I can only get the Track number.

I initally thought that this was a PBC issue, but found that I can get beyond that by selecting a 'track' directly.. But I still end up without any track information on my disks.

    What mm I doing wrong?

  2. each player is going to have its own qwirks..

My Panasonic plays SVCD's that I make from DV masters..

it shows time, chapters etc....and fast forwards.

On my buddy's Mitsubishi....it only shows VCD on the front and will not do anything else...

If I try to fast forward or reverse...the display screws up and I need to re-power the machine.

The way around that is to export with No-Frames instead of Frames A or B

Just the way it is...all of them are different.

    But its not the player!

I have several SVCDs.. The ones I authored show 'Track number' and a 'counter'.

But the ones I borrowed, I can get more information like 'total time remaining', 'track time remaining' etc.

There must be something about these disks which is more compatable with my player..

What ways can you author a disk other then Nero/WinOnCD?

  4. For SVCDs: VCDImager and I-Author
For VCDs: VCDImager, VCD Toolkit, VideoPack 4.

This is in addition to Nero and WinOnCD obviously.

So, are you saying that the problem I have is with Nero/WinOnCD?

    Will VCDImager help?

I just don't understand how 2 SVCDs can play the same, but one gives track information and the other nothing!

  6. If the SVCD isn't authored correctly by the proggy, certain things may not display correct (e.g., time display). Nero is notorious for this and if posts in this forum are anything to go by, even the newest version of Nero still can't author a proper SVCD.

VCDImager is probably the best freely available option for authoring SVCD at the moment.
