  1. Hello: As a newcomer I'd like ask something. I put an NEC 1300A Drive (OEM) in my Athlon 1800 machine and when I tried to play a movie Media Player only gave sound (no video). I also have NERO 6 on the same machine and it gives the message "NERO Showtime was unable to play the selected video. Please close all other applications that are playing back video or are in pause mode and try again" This same video plays well on Media Player in my Compaq Laptop with Media Player. Windows Media Help says that my machine is missing "codecs?" or "decoders?" that are not furnished by Microsoft with Media Player. I have read and read and connot find anything about just playing video. I'd appreciate help if I can get it. I'm OK with hardware and stuff but brand new to video.

    Thanks, Robert

Download G-spot and open your file with it to determine which codec you need. Once you have that info, click on the "Tools" section on the left side of this page, then "Codecs". You should find the links to what you need there.

  3. teegee420:
thanks for the prompt response. I loaded gspot and it says there are 47 Video Codecs loaded and 24 Audio Codecs. Darned if I know where they all came from. There is also a red line over the following:
Type:DSH Format:DIVX Codec:DIVX Decoder Filter Codec not registered"

As I said I am a complete neophite with Video but I'm learning. When I try to play and load the file(CD) it says it should play. Interestingly enough CD's do play with Powere DVD which came bundled with something or other.

I'd just like to have NERO and Windows Media Player work.

I am on Windows Messenger as "opaclark@bellsouth.net" and on AOL Instant Messenger as "monacodrvr69".

How does one "register" the DIVX Decoder Filter?

    Thanks again.

    Robert

  5. Nope. Didn't help at all. Now Win Media Player Crashes each time I try to play a DVD.

  6. For anyone who is interested I now have Windows Media Player playing commercial DVD Movies. For some reason or other inserting the DVD for Matrix - Reloaded caused some sort of message from Interactual to come up and it must have loaded the correct stuff because now I can play cd's in Media Player. Nero however continues to complain about "other applications that are playing video or are in pause mode". E-Mails to NERO were less than successful. All they could say was "There must be a bug in the program, wait until the next release". I wrote NERO sales and told them I was blocking the credit card charge and would be happy to give them their serial number back. We'll see what happens. I cannot believe that a company with the popularity of NERO can expect a legitimate purchaser to spend $1.29 per minute to get support. 30 minutes of support would eat up more than the program costs. If anyone has any suggestions in dealing with these folks it would be appreciated.

    Thanks Bob
