  1. Hi there, I am new here and please help with my question. Thank you.

I bought a DVD with no Chinese subtitles with it. I d/l some chinese subtitles (.srt files) for this movie but I don't know how to display them. For some reason, I can't use media player or real one player to play DVD. I could use Power DVD or the realmagic program to play DVD but the vob sub won't start. And I can't copy the .srt file to the DVD drive anyway. So is there a way to play the movie with external subs?? Will vob sub works good or I need some other program to do this??

Thank you for reading and I really appreciate any inputs from you guys.
    Have a nice day.

  2. Man, I don't know about this one. It may not be possible. The player you're most likely to get results with is Zoom Player Pro, since it combines a true DirectShow player with a DVD front-end. But I've just never tried doing this.

One way you could get it to work for sure is to convert the DVD to an AVI in DivX or XviD or whatever, then just drop the .srt file next to the AVI with the same name. That should get VobSub going for you, but I don't know if you want to go through the trouble of compressing a DVD to 1 or two CDs just to watch it.

It's up to you, if you choose to try this, there are some great guides on the left side of your screen.

    Good Luck.

  3. Hello:

I'm new here, just want to share my experience.
I've been looking for a way to play dvd with external subs as well. I found this freeware called dvdsubber that does the job wonderfully. It's a player that plays dvd or other media files with external timed script.
You need to have the correct codec for dvd installed for dvdsubber to play dvd. (If you can get windows media player or any DirectShow compatible player to play dvd properly, that will do.)
It doesn't support vobsub subtitles though, only subtitles that are stored as text like SubRip etc.

    For vobsub:
You can configure DirectVobSub to "always load" in the [general] tab, in such case when you use a compatible player to play a clip, DirectVobSub will automaticall launch, then you can load external vobsub subtitles. The problem is that when I play files like *.avi, DirectVobSub does launch automatically, but doesn't launch when I play dvd.
