  1. I've just got Nero Recode 2 to try and convert some SVCD mpg files into mpg4 files.

How do I do this in Nero Recode 2? It seems to only let you import DVD .vob files, and nothing else.

Can I use the the Nero Digital codec with another prog, such as TMPGenc?

    TIA

You would need to author the SVCD's mpg file. Since the SVCD probably uses 480x480 you have a problem. You could demux the mpg into it's elementary m2v and mp2 streams. IFOEDIT's DVD author option can create DVD files from those streams. It will correct the headers to display the video properly and it will author from the mp2's 44100 sample rate and the resulting file will play in PowerDVD and will play on most DVD players if burnt to DVD-R.
Not sure if Recode would except the files but it's certainly worth a try.

I tried what wulf109 suggested once before and those efforts were unsuccessful. I authored a DVD ISO, mounted to a virtual drive and tried to import the DVD into Recode 2. The titles imported just fine, it just didn't encode a single frame. I think it's still worth giving a shot though. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.
