I've been converting a lot of my DVDs to divx so I can watch on my laptop. For the most part ffmpegx works great, but when I try any DVD from the * Collection I get info above the open dialog such as:

    VIDEO: mpeg-2, size: 720x480, 29.970 fps, 9800 kbps.

But when I click "Play" mplayer exits immediately. I also can't preview from the Filters tab and no matter which encoding options I choose, it writes a 0 Kb file and ends immediately.

I've narrowed it down to only * Collection DVDs, all others work perfectly. I can play the VIDEO_TS folder off my drive using either VLC or Apple DVD Player. I have 3 different *C DVDs that have the same problem, below is the Process Information when I try to convert *.

Any Ideas?? Thanks so much for all the effort. Other than a few DVDs it works great!

  2. Try with the "fast DivX" preset, same result?

  3. Guest
    yes, same results.

  4. Do you have a process output when using "fast DivX"?

  5. Guest
    "fast DivX" Process Info:

Encoding started on Mon Feb 9 16:20:38 EST 2004
    /Volumes/Macintosh HD/DVDBAK/*/VIDEO_TS: Unknown format

However, I can load that VIDEO_TS folder with no problems in both VLC and Apple DVD Player.

  6. Bump. Was there ever a resolution? I'm having the same problem. It appears to be only on certain Criterion discs.

  7. Try running the disc through MTR, then DVD2One, THEN ffmpegX....

  8. Or make a VOB first with 0SEx.
