  1. Hi - not a newb to ripping/backups - i have a lot that work perfectly (ripping w/dvd decrypter and re-authoring w/dvd shrink) but i noticed something weird w/a korean dvd i have... i rip the entire disc w/dvd decrypter then shrink it w/dvdshrink so it fits on dvd5... i just removed the DTS track and that leaves the compression at 79%... anyways, i noticed that the subs display on my pc (powerdvd, windvd), but not on my home players (tried xbox, ps2, apex, sony)... otherwise the dvd plays/sounds fine

i didn't do anything different (compared to the hundreds of others i have that work), and apparently the subs are there since they show up on the pc dvdplayers, but why wouldn't they show up on the home dvd players? of course the original disc shows subs fine in the home players, just not the copy - it's the weirdest thing... is there something in one of the ifo files that could be causing this?

    any help/ideas are appreciated, thanks!
fyi - the korean dvd is region3 "please teach me english" - a really cute romantic comedy

  2. Hello rs500.

dvdshrink - the developer - has been working on trying to fix some of the subpictures issues.
I'd suggest you try the latest beta and see if it works better for you.

When I have a movie that has subtitles I always use DVD2ONE especially with "forced subs" which is something DVDShrink seems unable to handle while DVD2ONE has no such issues.

  6. DVD Shrink has problems with certain titles and subs. Sometimes I have to open IFOEdit and set the subs manually prior to burning, you can give that a try if you like (guides at doom9.org)

  7. hi - i tried dvdshrink 3.1.5.b4 and the same problem happens - the subs show fine on the PC, but not on the standalone.. if i change the standalone player's preferences to a 16:9 display instead of a 4:3, then the subs show (but the picture is distorted)... so the subs are there, but it seems like there is a positioning problem - how exactly would you fix this w/ifoedit?

    thanks!
