Hi
I try to cut a big mpg in smaller one to do chapters on a SVCD.
I use a software named AVI-MPEG-ASF-WMV Splitter
I select a precise range on the video (Ex: from 1min 32sec to 5min 47 sec)
i cut this part of the file to another little mpg file. But when i watch the new little file it to see if everything is ok. I see that most of the time it starts 1-5 seconds before or after the real exact cut (1min 32sec).
I looked around on the forum to find an answer but did not find anything. So if any of you had that problem and know how to resolved it i would appreciate.
Thank you for your help

I am confused by your request. Chapter points don't require seperate clips, do they? I used to use VCDEasy and it allowed you to use a single clip and set multiple chapter points.
I also had problems extracting sections of mpeg clips without errors or long encoding times. I use VideoStudio 6 to clip mpeg files. If you allow your project to inherit settings from the mpeg file, it will not rerender and is very fast. It is also great at precise cuts with no audio sync issues.
You can get VideoStudio 6 on ebay for $10-20 shipped. Let me know if this helps. -
Thank you for the answer
Yes i tought the only way to put chapter on a (s)vcd is but having a mpg per chapter. I use Nero to create my vcd and this is the only way i think it can be done. I will try VCDEasy and see how it can be done.
If this work there won't even be an issue about cutting mpg.
Is this VideoStudio 6 easy to learn ?
it sound like a tools for professionnal and i'm just a newbie)

First, go for VCDEasy. I think version 1.5 was the last free version. Good product. Lots of examples of how to use.
VS6 is a good product and works for newbies and those more experienced. Not professional by any means but one of the more capable apps. I have found no other that combines all that it does but interface is very useful.
And remember to burn slowly to be safe. -
that kind of product (as others) will only cut on a I frame at the beginning of a GOP .. so your cut points are never going to right on (unless you get real lucky)

Yeah this is what i think
i think some software doesnt really cut the mpg where you ask but on the keyframe (not shure if it is the right terme) next to it. So it often happen that if you need an precise cut it's not going to work. Does VideoStudio 6 also does this ? If so do you know how i can cut my mpeg very precisly. -
use mpeg2vcr or mpegedit pro instead (or better vitec - but impossable to find)

vs6 does cut exactly where you ask it to and renders only the sections that need rendering.

I try to do chapter with a single mpg (with VCDEasy) file without cut it for every chapters but i got the same problem my chapters are not really cut where marked it in the chapter section of VCDEASY.
So i really think the best way is to try cut them properly at the exact second i want with VS6 and them burn it with 1 mpg per chapter
Thank you very much for your advice.
