    Hello,

I've contacted Major by email and had a very succinct answer so I thought it would be better if I post my questions here.

After reading much content on the KVCD.net Web site, I've decided to convert some of my DivX files to KSVCD so I can watch'em on TV.

KSVCD is supposed to produced 120 min of near-DVD quality video on a single 700 Mb CDR --up to 360 min at VCD quality.
On this topic https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=178740 Major says the KSVCD preset can store up to 63 min on a single 700 Mb CD. How come? Why twice as less?

The KVCD.net forum advises to use KVCDx3 for best results. There's no sign of this in ffmpegx. They also talk alot about the CQ parameter which seems very important to achieve smaller file size. No sign of this either in ffmpegx.

Can we expect to have them in a future release of ffmpegx or is the Mac unable to do everything a PC does? --which I refuse to believe =)

  2. KVCD does not standardize the encoded file size. It uses a specific quantization matrix leading to better compression, but each encoder will keep its own bitrate control methods. The mpeg2enc parameters affecting bitrate are bitrate and qmin.
