Maybe a dumb question, is c:\temp\test.avi the correct path to the file, that you want to convert?

check that the file has not got the .txt extension, even though you saved it as all files, this sometimes happens, you have to delete the .txt extension and change it to .avs,it then becomes an unknown file with an .avs extension.
Have you got the file extensions hidden??

thnx -
Go to the directory where you saved the file and check the icon, if its a notepad icon, its still a text file, also when you go to the directory, click on view/folder options, when the dialogue box opens, click on the view tab, then make sure "Show all files" is checked and "Hide File Extensions For All Known File Types" is unchecked. This will show you the complete extension of your file, then if you have to , you can rename it to .avs

If you want to frameserve test.avi, type the full path in the avs file, otherwise neither windows media player nor any encoder will recognize it.
Example: your avi file
c:\movies\test.avi
Open notpad, type
AviSource("c:\movies\test.avi")
save it as *.avs
Open *.avs in media player and it will play (stuttering slow motion). -
before I start framserving I want to make sure Avisynth works for me so it doesn't
wtf am I doing wrong? -
thats what I was trying to say, you must save as an .avs file, I did this a couple of times and it was still recognised as a .txt file, my extension was something like test.avs.txt, I had to rename the file, in other words delete the .txt. This may not be your problem. I'm only advising on the problems I had with an .avs file, and the author of avisynth also says that he has been told of known problems with mediaplayer 7.1.
Avisynth could well be installed properly, but if the file path ain't correct you got nothing -
Text taken from avisynth read me file,
Furthermore,I heard that there are problems with Windows Media Player 7.

I try it once again. Avisynth frameserve the avi to media player or any encoder.
The *.avs refers to the .avi.
If you do not type the correct path, the *.avs don't refer to the avi and that's why there is nothing to play.
I hope, I explained that clearly.
If you don't understand that, use VirtualDub.
btw, I use WMP 7.0 to preview a .avs.

Truman led the way for me to use Avisynth mate, and its a blinding speed in CCE compared to what I was using.
You have GOT to check that path
I have 7.1, but the .avs locks up immediately, I just get the first few seconds of a loaded .avs and thats it, but it encodes no probs in CCE. -
thanks guys will sleep on I'm tired got bed now try in the morning do some 3 pass rips then
adios amigos

I had the same problem with 1.0 beta. Downloaded
AVISynth 1.4 from divx-digest.com. It is contained
within Nimo Codec Pack 4.32. Solved the problem.
Read about AVISynth at http://www.videotools.net, this could
also be the problem:
Encoder/player will not read the AVIsynth scriptfile ?
I noticed that many "new" programs do NOT use the Windows functions to read the AVI files. If they do NOT use those standard Windows functions AVIsynth will not work. Known programs that do NOT use those routines are CCE 2.62 SP and Windows Media Encoder Vx.x. Furthermore, I heard that there are problems with Windows Media Player 7.
