You have got to be kidding.

Our own Lordsmurf does this as an occupation. Just because you are a hobbyist does not mean that everyone here is just trying to make a better backup of his own DVDs.

There MAY just be a guy or two here who would like to earn a buck making video backups of his friends/neighbors vid tapes. It IS one reason for a ton of people coming here. Not strictly to keep the original out of the little one's hands.

You know how many people out "there" have bad 8mm tapes from 30 years ago who would love to have them in a format they could watch again?

Especially without digging out all the old projection equipment, which, Murphy being along, probably doesn't work anymore, or a 50 buck bulb has burnt out, or they have one of the cartridge projectors, no cartridges, ad nauseum.

Hey, the guy wants to pay someone to do skinflicks, take the money and run. Although, as I understand it, there's so much money in it, I don't know why he's tryimg to get it done on the cheap.

    Cheers,

    George
Of course, this forum from what I can see is not just for hobbyists and I found no rules against posting a job. It might be a good thing for them to create a seperate forum where people could post jobs.

About 'there's so much money in it' - not really true anymore, the adult Net biz is no longer easy money. And the one thing about the adult biz is that prices on everything get cut to the bone quick because of the fierce competition. While mainstream people were paying $10 dollars a gig for bandwidth to hosting companies, adult webmasters were paying $1 per gig. That's now down to about 40 cents a gig if you're pushing alot of bandwidth. I've seen mainstream companies prices for encoding services and they are 10 times what the adult biz prices are. This is why billions of dollars were blown in the dotcom era, people being paid huge gobs of money for everything. That's over of course. Businesses succeed by controlling costs in this super competitive world. Unless you have some unique product you have to compete with people who are selling the same thing as you do. I'm also a web designer - how do you think I feel when a business I made good money at is now gone because there are Eastern Europeans who will do the same work I did for 1/10th. Globalization is brutal.

If I looked hard enough I could probably find some offshore guy to do this for $10 a DVD. $500 is more than the monthly salary of the average worker in Eastern European countries.

am good friends with the webmaster who did all Wicked's backend and streaming video for the Web

Streaming is not that popular with adult web surfers.

They like to download movies and then watch them.
Then there is no reason to use any other encoding besides Mpeg1. This is completely license free, with a free encoder, and carries the lowest system overhead of all codecs. Many people have PCs that are unable to decode WMV9 streams due to the agressive decoding that is done.

    Spend a few months researching.
hehee......... i have been at this since 1998. I know this business inside and out. My research is done day in day out.

And yes that is exactly the reason why I offer MPEG-1 because 99% of people can play them on their computers without doing anything.
Streaming is not popular with web surfers, I see it with my own tracking, they want to download a movie and watch it not sit there waiting as the stream buffers.

DivX does not allow their codec to be used for adult. No it's not some moral stance they are taking - they have alterior motives, they no doubt want a piece of the adult pie and will try to get big royalties out of adult.
VidX is good but it's too complicated for many surfers just to download a codec and install it.

I think you misunderstood me George. Lordsmurf is a living legend and all power to him but he doesn't advertise his services on this forum. There is a time and a place.
    If in doubt, Google it.
