  1. Ok, my buddy bought some concert on dvd that was obviously shot on handicam and converted to dvd. The quality of both the video and the audio is excellent so I want a copy of it myself. Here comes the problem: My audio unit HATES mpeg audio. It cuts in and out and just plain sounds awful (i have posted a couple of things about this before). After some reading and asking some questions I figured out that if convert to AC3 sound that I wont have this problem...I tested this with Tmpgenc DVD Author with AC3 encoder and it works wonders. (I implore anyone who likes this prog to purchase this little upgrade!)

Well I know I can just create a new project and add my DVD-Video footage from the hd and it will reauthor it for me with the newly encoded ac3 sound, but I also want to keep the original menu too. You see, this menu is very nicely done as well and I really hate to be without it...Call it a pride thing if you want but I would like to keep it...So, is there any way I can rip the menu, reencode the audio and put it all back together?

BTW, the band is Radiohead and whoever put this together put some real effort into it, as most Radiohead fans do!
Boy do I love my avatar!

If your friend bought this than it is a commercial DVD, even if it was just made by a fan. So if you want a copy then you should buy one.

But to just give you some general advice, the only difference between ripping a movie only DVD and ripping the one with all the menu's and extras is two simple steps. When you are done re-encoding drag and drop the newly created vobs into the original VIDEO_TS dir (minus the original movie vobs of course.) Then run IFOUpdate on the IFO for that movie. That's it, all the menus and button command will be intact.

One thing to make note of though, is that the first vob in the titleset for your movie is where the menus are. So if your movie is 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc... then the menus are in 1.0. So just copy this vob into the VIDEO_TS dir untouched and encode the rest.
