ATI MMC 8.8 closes again immediately after start

I have the following problem: I updated to ATI MMC 8.8 and Catalyst 4.1 (used the ATI deinstallation tool to deinstall all ATI software, then did a clean install). After starting MMC, it runs the first-time-setup and prompts me to search for channels (all channels are found correctly).

NOW THE PROBLEM:

After completing the first-time-setup MMC 8.8 is shown normally for a few seconds (displaying the first found TV channel). Then the hourglass appears (it's trying to load something) and MMC closes (crashes?). The audio can still be heard though. I have tried to reinstall MMC 8.7 but it's no use either, the problem persists.

What am I doing wrong?

Configuration: P4 2,6 GHz, WinXP SP1, ATI Radeon 9000 AIW.

I found the solution: Uninstall LAME ACM codec 3.95. Everything works again! Simple but effective.
