Hi Guys, I've been lurking here for a while but this is my first post. Anyway...

I've been making backup copies of dvds (that I of course legally own) for a while now and have gone through various software.. I started with dvdxcopy then moved to anydvd\clone I stopped using clonedvd\anydvd because I would have issues often where the dvd would pause during play and I would have to fast forward for just a second then play again.

now I'm using dvdshrink\nero. A few of my recent dvds have had odd little jumps in them every few seconds. I'm not exactly what is happening because it's too fast to tell but there is an obvious anomaly. I saw it first when I did two dvds using the deep analysis so I stopped using that but last night it occurred on one that I did not use that on.

It seems as if I keep having to switch software to get decent copies.. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Burner is Sony DRU-120A

Reader (I rip off this because it's 16x instead of 8x read) MSI Black 48X24X48X16 Combo Drive MOdel: X48 black

    Media - TDK 4x DVD+R

I should note that many of the films copy without a problem but I am getting an increased ratio of bad/good.

    Try these

    1. Dvd Decrypter
    2. Dvd2One
    3. Copy to Dvd

    Try this ...

Continue using DVDShrink but after you are done create an ISO IMAGE FILE using the CLASSIC VERSION of ImgTools THEN burn that ISO IMAGE FILE using DVD Decrypter.

Make sure you have the newest versions of all your software and you might want to double check to see if there are any FIRMWARE updates for your DVD burner.

If you still have problems with the DVDShrink/Classic ImgTools/DVD Decrypter method then it can only be one of two things. The MEDIA (i.e., your blank DVD discs) or there is a problem with your DVD burner that would require either getting it fixed or (due to cheap prices these days) just buying a new one.

Also your stand alone DVD player could be at fault. Note that DVD-R is often more compatable with stand alone DVD players than DVD+R discs. So the only problem might be that your DVD player doesn't like DVD+R discs which can be solved by either moving to DVD-R or buying a new DVD player.

@Denvers: Thanks for the advice. If I can't get things going with this very soon I will switch software once again.. sigh

@FulciLives: Ok, one thing that I realized from reading your response is that I may be doing something else wrong. I am not using dvdshrink to make an iso but to burn automatically using nero when completed. Also, I realized that I may not have been having issues before getting this 16x dvd reader. Maybe there are problems with the drive itself but could it be possible that the speed is causing errors? It's hard for me to do consistent tests on this because most of the dvds I copy turn out just fine, it's the few that are really frustrating.

I'm using the latest versions of all software mentioned and I also have all firmware up to date. I doubt the problem is with my stand alone player as I specifically bought it because it said compatible with dvdr and have played many in it without incident.

Well I don't see how the RIPPING DVD DRIVE could be the problem.

All I am trying to say is that NERO sucks. So try a method that works. At least you rule out the BURNING METHOD being the problem.

Gotcha, I have a film here that I'm going to watch the backup of tonight (copied under my old method). If it isn't up to par I'll try it again with your method. Thanks for your help!
