  1. Ok, got a quickl one for ya. When I re-author using dvd shrink, and I'm getting rid of the unnecessary stuff, should i get rid of DTS 6-ch or AC3 6-ch. My guess is that I would want to keep the AC3 but I'm not sure. How do I decide which to keep?

    Thanks folks!

  2. Its a matter of preference. The DTS track is usually bigger so sometimes you need to decide whether to compress more and keep the DTS track or compress less. Also, whoever plays the DVDR would need a DTS decoder if you kept that track.

  3. So the ac3 sounds to be the best option. Is there a sound difference in the 2?

    Thanks for your help!

  4. Dolby Digital and DTS are competing companies. There is always an arguement for both sides but DTS is suppose to sound better. My rule, I keep the DTS track if the movie warrants it and will always keep the DTS track if space allows. Sometimes, I will choose the AC3 6 over the DTS track to keep from compressing the movie as much. The other factor, if you take one of your DTS only movie backups over to a friends house and he doesn't have a DTS decoder you will get no sound while playing the movie. Good Luck!

  5. Ok, you helped me a lot. I'll keep DTS only if it the space allows. Otherwise, I'm ticking with AC3.

    Thanks again!

What's your sound setup? You have a home theater system with that can decode dts? Personally I prefer DTS to AC3 5.1 but sometimes I get rid of it and only keep AC3 5.1 cause DTS is usually much bigger and I don't want to sacrfice too much video quality

If all you have are TV speakers then just keep the AC3 5.1 track, heck if the DVD has a 2.0 AC3 track get rid of both AC3 5.1 and DTS.

  7. I've got a 500 watt Onkyo Surround sound receiver and and infinity speakers and sub. However, sometimes I loan my movies out to friends that may not have a receiver at all. It sounds like if I plan on it being compatible for my bumming chums, AC3 is the best bet, otherwise, DTS. Correct?

    Thanks!

Yeah but ... my friend wanted Gladiator ... but he didn't have a DTS decoder but he could hear AC-3 6 CH ... so I made him the DVD without DTS ... he now has upgraded and does have DTS ... he likes DTS ... he can hear the difference.

So I got out my Gladiator DVD and redid it again ... this time with DTS and not AC-3 6 CH .... and yeah the DTS audio is huge on Gladiator. It's a 2 HR and 35 minute movie.

Best to really think hard .... at least keep the AC-3 6 CH audio track.
