I use TMPEGenc and VobSub to create svcds with permanent subs from avi files. The problem is that the subtitles sometimes are ok, but sometimes are missing from the SVCD I create. The most common result is that only some part of subtitles appear and most of them are skipped. The subtitle files are checked and are in sync. The arrow which indicates that VobSub is loaded while encoding SVCD appears in the taskbar. In the environmental settings of TMPGEnc I have put highest priority for DirectShow Multimedia File Reader. Everything seems fine, but still only part of subtitles appear on the SVCD. And the situation is exactly the same on two PCs I use (one is PIII 1GHz Win2k; the other is Celeron ~2GHz WinXP). Maybe somebody has any suggestions regarding what is wrong? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend using VirtualDub and a filter to add the subs (and frame serving to the encoder). This gives you much higher degree of control over your subs. VobSub is probably placing the subs outside of the rendered area somehow. See if there is a VobSub setting that allows you to tune the placement of the subs in the frame. The subs might be made for some other frame size than the AVI you have?

You could try the ffdshow subtitle filter and disable vobsub.
Or use virtualdub or avisynth with subtitle filter. -
I have tried VirtualDub to put permanent subtitles to avi files and it worked 100% fine. The only problem is that in this case the process is much longer and I need to double encode the file. I also tried frameserving, but somthing was wrong and I didn't succeed. I don't think VobSub puts subtitles somewhere outside the viewable area, because then i would get no subs at all, but now i do get some subs but not all of them (for example, it happens that there are shown subtitles for the lyrics of some stupid song in the movie, but when the real acton & dialogue starts the subs don't come up, then later they appear again, and then disappear again, and so on...).
I tried ffdshow as well, but my system didn't liket that program somehow and the program didn't work.
A friend of mine also uses just TMPEGenc + VobSub with similar settings and gets perfect result -
I also have this problem and is very anxious how to solve this problem.
Anyone has manage to know the solution to this problem?
