I'm posting this in a new topic because I think many people overlooked this post in the old topic.

    I downloaded MMC 7.6, 7.7, 8.1, 8.5, 8.6, and 8.7. Keep in mind I have an old ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro 32MB Rage card.

-7.6 will install, and run, but drops too many frames at 352x480.
-7.7 will install, but the program freezes on the splash screen
-8.1 through 8.7 will not install. The InstallShield fires up, and the progress bars all reach 100%, but then the InstallShield goes away, and it just dies. You would expect the big red ATI screen to welcome you to the install, but I get nothing. I don't think they like my old card. I really wanted to use a newer version than MMC 7.2, but it's not working out it seems. Guess I'm sticking with the Ulead Visual Studio for now. If only they could work in some type of timer for recording. Any ideas what I can do to make a newer MMC install?

  2. I don't want to assume anything so:

    1. Did you do a full uninstall of the old before each install of a new version?

    2. Did you update the card drivers?

    briandugas,
Good morning. Seems we both are suffering from the same dilemma. I have an older ATI 128 Rage Fury Pro card. It does very nicely for me at all resolutions EXCEPT full D1. I get to many dropped frames. At least that was with my old computer (800 MHz ). I had very good luck at all of the other resolutions and even with high bit rates using MMC 7.6 I also wanted to upgrade to MMC 8.x but like you I could not get it to install.
I have since gotten a new 2.8 P4 cpu and mobo but I have not yet gotten around to reinstalling MMC. I will start with old trusty 7.6 but then immediately try the update route to 8.x. I am not holding my breath mind you but ........
If you find a solution to installing MMC 8 with your ati card please repost your success and findings.

To make AIW 128 PRO work with newer MMC:

Search for old posts here or rage forum and get the batch files.

MMC 8.7 will work with these combination:

    WXP_R128_6_13_3279 or R128xp_673
    tv-capture-wdm-6-14-01-6178v1
    MMC8.7
    DX9

MMC 8.8 will work with these combinatoins:

R128xp_673 only (WXP_R128_6_13_3279 driver WILL NOT work with MMC 8.8 )
    tv-capture-wdm-6-14-01-6178v1
    MMC8.8
    DX9

There is no batch file for 8.8 you have rename the folder yourself.

I'm not sure what batch files you are referring to, but I'll look. I installed the following drivers in the order listed:
(first I uninstalled everything ATI related)
    -Installed R128xp_673
    -Installed tv-capture-wdm-6-14-01-6178v1

Then I tried to install MMC 8.7, but same problem. The install dies when the InstallSheield is done. I get no setup screen. Maybe my answer lies in these batch files you speak of.
I did get 7.7 to work successfully, which is one step better than where I was yesterday with 7.7 freezing up. We're on to something.
[Edit] Just did a test capture with MMC 7.7. Didn't drop any frames, not even in the beginning. I had to try hard to make it drop a frame just to make sure it was reporting right. I opened up another program and it dropped about 100 right away, then went steady again. I just hope the darn field order is correct.

    Edsmith,
I followed the instructions given by a previous post, and as I mentioned, I was able to get MMC 7.7 to install. This was the first version to capture with 48KHz audio. My field order was correct, and I was able to go straight from the MP2 capture file right into TMPGEnc DVD Author. The resulting project was viewed on my TV, and the quality was the same as input from cable. No jumping video, no jerking video, no audio sync issues. So, I would follow the directions of the previous post and just go with MMC 7.7. The only thing we're supposedly missing is the VideoSoap, and honestly, my system probably isn't fast enough support any more extra features during capture. If you have trouble finding those drivers mentioned, do a google search. I found one on a spanish site. I may be able to email you the link if needed....I'm sure it's in my history somewhere. Goodluck Rage 128 friend.
