  1. I've read posts here that seem to refer to VOB and MPEG files as interchangeable. What's the difference? Is there any? I'm just wondering because I've been working strictly with VOB files, and just need to use MPEG2VCR to do some editing, and what it outputs is an MPEG file. Do I need to do anything to file this before I can burn it to a DVD alongside VOB files? Thanks for your help.

A VOB file is basically the entire stream of data from the DVD. The one video stream (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2), up to 8 audio streams, and up to 32 subpicture streams are all multiplexed together to form a VOB file. If your MPEG2VCR program produces a MPG file you will need to use a DVD authoring program to get it back in the proper format for burning to the DVD. DVD-lab is a decent program that take your MPEG files and also your audio files and author a DVD with menus, chapters, and so on. I believe that it also has the ability to work with existing VOB files.
