  1. ok thanks to people i have now ripped my 1st dvd using dvd dycryptor but what i want to do know is watch it on my laptop and convert to div x.

i now have 37 files in 1 folder totaling 7.75gb . i am led to believe divx is the best/smallest format so how do i get the 37 files into just the 1 file i need to play in divx player then i can delete all the excess files

    thanks

The quite a few files you have on disk are the various files making up the DVD title. Some are menus and some probably extras, trailers, interviews, etc.

To convert the DVD video into DivX AVI, you can use different methods.

Perhaps the simplest one as starter is to use a good old tool like FlaskMPEG. You open an IFO file and it finds the rest of the VOBs. You can configure it to save as AVI using DivX as a codec. You can also select which audio track to use.

What I would do is to rip the DVD (with DVDDecrypter) in File or IFO mode but changing in settings the File Splitting from "By File" to "none". This will generate a large VOB file for each titleset.

I would then open the main movie VOB file with VirtualDUB MPEG and save the movie in AVI format using DivX for video and MP3 for audio.

At first, the process might appear complicated, but once you've done it, it's pretty simple.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
