I have a Pioneer DVD Rom (D Drive), and a Plex 708 Writer (E Drive). All of a sudden I have a "generic DVD Drive showing up under Drive F and another DVD Drive, generic, showing up as Drive G. Where did these come from, I haven't a clue, how do I get rid of the icons which appear when I click the "My Computer" icon. I went to "Device Manager" and disabled/deleted them and the icons disappeared but every time I reboot my computer the icons reappear. Can anyone help with why this would happen and how I can permanently delete these icons? Thank you very much.![]()

slk001, thank you for the reply. I have the following disk imagining software, if I am interpreting your question correctly.
Norton Ghost
Nero
AnyDVD
CloneDVD
Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 (Basic Ver.)
Your comment "Format C?", what does this mean. My hard drive is my C Drive if thats what you are asking or are you saying I should reformat Drive C, if so can I do that without a new Windows install, if so could you tell me how. Thank you again for your help.Thank You,

He didn't mean disk burning...he meant something like Daemon tools.
The reference to "format C", is a joke
Update the chipset drivers for the motherboard.Cheers, Jim

Nero does have a "virtual drive" component (Nero ImageDrive) that is typically installed. With it installed, all DVD and CD drives show up twice -- once as the physical drives and once as the virtual drives.
Ex: 1 CD-R (D:) and one DVD (E:) would show-up as D:, E:, F:, G:
The other programs may have an equivalent, as well. -
This is almost certainly to do with clonedvd and maybe nero as well. Yes they sound like two "imagedrives" you need to idasble them in the appropriate software.

reboot thank you for the advice, could you possibly tell me how to update my chipsets, I have no clue. Thank you.

Yes, "FORMAT C: " was a joke (you obviously don't remember the old DOS days!).
If I had to guess, I would say that Norton GHOST is creating "ghost" images of your drives. Maybe there is a setting to tell it to not ghost drives with removeable media.ICBM target coordinates:

slk001 thank you, is there a way to check for this in ghost and remove the icons? Again thank you for your patience and advice.
Thank You,

Can't help you with the program settings. I don't trust any software program to make any decisions like this for me. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), they lack the basic intelligence to make anything more than mundane decisions.

slkoo1 thank you anyway, I will just try uninstalling ghost and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for your replies and advice, I think this is just one problem I will have to live with until I decide to reinstall a fresh Windows OS. Thanks.
Thank You,
