I just purchased a Dell8300 3Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 120Gb SATA drive, DVD-ROM drive,Nivida GeForce 5200FX graphics, internal audio and NIC. I added 1 Gb of RAM and a Plextor 708 dual burner.I would like to add a second hard drive to capture video to. The DVD-ROM and the DVD burner share the seconday IDE cable. I have the primary IDE cable free. Should I get a second SATA drive or will the two SATA drives share resources similar to two IDE drives on the same cable? Will any cards in the PCI slots affect the performance of the SATA drives? Or should I get an IDE drive, and if so, should I make it a boot drive or a capture drive?
I have a bunch old VHS tape that I want to convert to DVD. I am going to use a Canopus ADVC-100 or a Sony Digi-cam. I don't own either one yet so I am leaning towards the Sony. The Sony puchase would also update my old VHS camcorder. So now this leads to my next question. I am looking for software to do the conversion. Is there any one software that will go from capture to DVD burn or should I try the free stuff that came with my Plextor burner and Firewire card first. Thanks JIm
