I am wanting to capture some videos to SVCD/CVD. I'm currently using MMC 8.8. Is there an older version that works better? I have no problems with 8.8 but I just want to squeeze as much quality and performance that I can. Anyone got any tips?

  2. not speaking from experience, but I have heard that 8.8 is very bug-ridden and causes many users to drop frames. If you can find a version of 8.7 i would use that. But maybe somebody else has a more definative answer.

I have been using ATI MMC 8.8 since it was released. I capture about 20 hours per week from satellite using a high bitrate mpeg2(not sure about exact setting). I will usually get no more than 10-15 dropped frames per hour. I have no problems running other programs while capturing (except some games). I have even occassionally burned a DVD while capturing.

My system is a P4 3.1GHz with 1gig RAM capturing to dual 200GB on a RAID config, with 80GB as base drive and 120GB as video edit drive.

  4. We should be getting a new version of MMC 8.9 with the next Catalyst driver release, which should be due any time now, as it's been about two months since MMC 8.8 (assuming ATI keeps the same 2-months release schedule)

    I'd take 8.1 or 8.7
