  1. Hello,

I have a Panasonic DMR 80, and want to Record simple copies of my family VHS home videos to DVD. Heres how I have things connected. I have the output of the VHS unit going into the DVD, using the back Input #3, and using RCA cables (2 audio, 1 video) as the VCR does not have S-Video. I set the input switch on the DVD, to input #3, (1 and 3 are on the back of the unit, 2 is in the front for Camcorder)and select the output as Output #1, and I see nothing. When I switch to Output 2, I see the VCR tape running on my monitor, so it seems it is getting signal into the DVD. I have the DVD Output #1 going to the input #1 of my RCA TV using RCA cables. Everything else works except for this...ie making DVD's from Direct TV box, dubbing to DVD -R, etc...

What am I doing wrong as I've spent hours trying to figure this out, and I thank anyone in advance for your help on this.

Ok I got the same unit and this is my setup I got the direct tv set to record input L1 ,when I want to record to my HDD I plug my vcr into the front rca jacks behind the little door on the left side of the unit (L2) and it works fine and finally I got the dvd output going to my HDTV monitor via the component video cables (red/green/blue) and the audio output in the same out put area. So this should take care of your problem

It is not possible ... so you might as well sell it to me ... I'll give you a $100 bucks for your DMR-E80.

or we can trade ... I'll send you my DMR-E50S for your DMR-E80

    Sounds like a deal ... huh ???

Try the Video CopyMaster -- Model SED-CM

made by Sima ... $50 bucks at BestBuy

    Works for me.

Oh yeah ... It wont work for copying DVDs ... only VHS video tapes.

Oh and maybe ... somewhere in the setup though your remote control is a option for turning on that input your having problems with.

My Mitsubishi Hi-Fi S-VHS VCR .... has an option in it for which input I want to use ... rear or front.

    Hi there

just a quick thought, its not related to recording RGB instead of composite is it, I know a number of recorders I have played with have recorded from RGB or Composite/Svideo but not both requiring changes in the menu before selecting a composite only input (such as VHS)

    Best regards

  5. louthewiz,

I tried this and it works...This will solve the problem, but in the manual, which doesn't expand on things well, it clearly shows that you connect it
to either the back input on the DVD or the front. Does anyone know what the front connection has that the back one does not? I would think that a unit of this level would pretty much just be plug and play, but maybe not...

    Thanks,

    Jerry

  6. One other note...I see nothing in set-up that allows you to define the input signal type...

Well ... it was just a idea.

    On my DMR-50 ... I have 3 VCRs sitting on a shelf

    Stand by for picture

The DMR-E50S is on the bottom there ... the front input connections are coming from the Panasonic VCR [3rd vcr up from the bottom]

A real rats nest huh ?? ... I had to put labels on my wires going into the switch box ... sitting on bed with all the wires going into it.

Looks complicated but ... not really ... LOL

Oh and my couch ... it's very comfortable to sleep on. Since my bed is occupied.
