  1. I did a search on the forum for people having "no sound" after encoding an avi file to an mpeg. Although the topic came up, I didn't really find an answer.
Hopefully someone with experience has a good one.
I download primarily avi files (movies). a lot of them are divx encoded. I always use TMPEGnc to convert the avi to VCD or SVCD. Although most of encode with no problem, I have found a couple that after converting them with TMPGEnc (12a or 2.0)to mpeg, the video is fine (viewed with either Windows Media or WinDVD), but there is absolutely no audio. The source avi files have both video and audio. How do you fix this? Can it be fixed ? Again there was no clear answer on the subject. First one to fix it gets a home cooked meal!

  2. Aghhh... Silly person. Most divx videos use Mp3 for audio... TMPG will not open MP3 audio. You have to use virtualdub to demux the audio (since TMPG doesn't deal with audio/video interleaves) then use Winamp's Diskwriter plugin (comes with winamp) to make it into a raw audio wav.

I got the same problem, but how to deumux the audio in
    virtualdub (wich version)?? I'm using v1.3c .
I tried with "Save WAV" But this is what I got:
"AVIOutputWav: The system cannot find the file specified."
So how to do it correctly ?
    Please help
    TIA

I've had this problem too...sometimes saving the audio as a wav in vdub works, and sometimes I've had to re-encode the whole movie with vdub using codecs I know will work in tmp.

Make sure you do a little test before you waste time encoding the whole thing.

try this it is quicker and I do not notice any sync prob;ems or deterioration in quality.
load up the div-x in virtual dub. selct direct stream copy under video tab but select no compression under the audio tab. No save as avi. yes the file will be bigger but it should only take a relatively short time fpor virtual dub to save this new file cos it is not doing any video work.
Now load this new version into TMPGEnc and it should encode fine.
It always works for me - But I don't often download div-x's I only really convert ones to VCD's that I am given as trades for my rips. So there may be a fiel this method doesn't work with - try it and see.

  6. Well ah, the files that I download are usually named something like this "Moviename[DvDrip,DivX].avi" Now, are they avi files or are the DivX files? I see people referring to them in the same context so I assumed they were the same. I'm probably wrong, but I've only been doing this for about 2 months now.
