  1. I just went to defrag my HD (usualy do every 1-2 weeks) and its way more fragmented then usual. Does copying to HD, then shrinking, then deleting all the files cause your HD to fragment alot? I assume the DVD backup process is my new problem...

yes and no. I tried ripping a movie using dvd decrypter and noticed according to Diskeeper that I had lots of red fragmented files, yet when it analyzed, it said that my harddrive was barely fragmented. I guess it also depends on what speed your harddrive is, whether it be 5400rpm or 7200rpm or whether it's the regular ata or serial ata.

I prefer to do on-the-fly copying, but have noticed that it's difficult for the newer dvds like Badboys2 and Underworld as I believe that they have been putting in dummy filler files.

i personally defrag about once a week, twice if i had some time and im bored. and i usually copy about 10 dvds per week. if you are just using dvd shrink to rip, then burn, then delete your files, you shouldnt have any problems. if you are using your computer for other things though, like the internet or other programs, in between copies, then you should defrag a little more often. if your not having any problems with burning, you dont really need to worry about it. but if you have a hard time burning, and your hard drive cant keep up with the burner, then its time to defrag
