Hi to all knowledgable forum dwellers! 8)
I am asking this question for a freind.
He is having a problem with his LG DVD-Writer.
This is his "version of events":
He can record to DVD-RW + or - with any of his burning programs including XP's burning utility. However, when he inserts a DVD-R (+ or -) to the writer,
and tries to do anything with the DVD via XP, windows gives an error message that the media is not correct, valid or simillar. To cut a long story short, XP can not explore or write to a DVD-R media. He tried three different media's and he is working with the latest firmware. The problem does not ocure with his other burning programs.
Any ideas? Is this a known problem? Are there known issues between XP's burning utility and DVD-R media?
Thanks for looking and thanks in advance if you have an answer.
Tzamroor.

I'm not exactly aware of -
XP's burning utility
And if the problem doesn't occur with the other burning programs...then why not just use the other burning programs? -
Windows XP built-in burning program will only do cd-r/cd-rw according to this Micros*ft website.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/focuson/cdburning.asp
But use nero or another compatible burner with more features instead of that worthless BillGates Burner.....LOLMMMMMMMMMMMMM..........sprinkles -
northcat_8 - XP burning utility - or otherwise known as (I think) CD writer wizard - simple "cut and paste" or "copy to...." which you can use with your writer. When you send an item to your cd-writer via Windows explorer and then ask windows to "Write these files to CD".
Windows xp might be needed for back-up (?) or when you simply want to write files to the DVD like you would with a CD Writer. However, come to think of it - Why ?
Like I said I am asking for a freind so I am not sure. For some reason it bugs him that XP has no problem with DVD-RW and can not handle blank DVD-R..... go figure
Redman66 - do I detecet a slight problem with Bill?
In any case, many thanks for your valued help!
I will pass your recomendations to my freind.
Other users feel free to leave feedback if you have another/different angle...

I agree with Redmann. Use something else. Heck I wasn't even aware that there was a burning program in XP, I wouldn't use it anyway...microsoft is an OS software company...not a burning software company...go with a software that is from a company based on burning software, he'll be much happier and have fewer problems.
Go get Nero.
