Hi all,
I bought some Sony CDRs which said that they had an 80 min capacity, but they ar ealso only 700mb. I thought 80 min CDRs were suppossed to be 800mb. Is this correct? Has this got something to do with overburning?
Also, Is there a minimum bitrate that a vcd must be or can you go as low as you want (althought this will obviously affect the quality). Therefore is there a maximum length of video that can be stored on an (x)vcd?
Is there a maximum amount of video (in terms of length) that I can store on a DVDR. ie Can I store 3-4+ movies (VCD quality or lower) on there if I am willing to accept the deterioration in quality.
Any assistance would be welcome.
Thanks.

The 80min part of the rating is for CD Audio playing time, while the 700MB rating is for CD-ROM data discs. But, read on...

Mode 1 vs. mode 2. Data is burned mode 1 giving 700 MB's and VCD's are mode 2 giving 800 MB.Originally Posted by icebergx
The VCD standard is fixed at 1150 Kbps for video, anything else is called an XVCD that may or may not be compatible with your VCD player. You can always try it and see. Also, Is there a minimum bitrate that a vcd must be or can you go as low as you want (althought this will obviously affect the quality). You are only limited by the bitrate you are willing to drop down to and the 4.3 GB size of a DVD-R. Yes you can get multiple VCD movies on a DVD.Is there a maximum amount of video (in terms of length) that I can store on a DVDR. ie Can I store 3-4+ movies (VCD quality or lower) on there if I am willing to accept the deterioration in quality.
Hope that helps.
