I got an LG dv-rom drive back in September and have used it with great results. I was getting ripping speeds up to 8X. Now all of the sudden the drive will not rip any faster then 1.6X. And on top of that it maxes out my cpu usage to 100%. Does anyone have any clue about what is causing this. Could the drive just be bad or is it a software issue. I can rip with my AO6 but as you know it's limited to 2X ripping, but it does not lock up my pc like the lg is doing now.

How would this setting get changed. Do certain apps change settings to your optical drives without your knowledge.

Ok ichecked my bios of my 1st mainboard motherboard and I see a couple of my devices are on PIO but there is not an option (at least that i understand) to switch these to dma. How is it that for months it was fine and now it's not? Oh and btw I did intall new aspi layers alsp to no avail. I guess this problem may be in fact a harware issue after all.
