When I set my capturing preferences to one of the default settings in WinDVR3, the movie comes out properly with the correct bitrate. However, when I make a custom profile (I like to use 1000kbps video bitrate) the file that I get is identified by other programs as a 262kbps video and a total bitrate of 495. In other words, footage seems to be capture in a format other than the one I set. Is this a bug with WinDVR3? Thanks.

Yes it is. With this program, you can use only the profiles it offers.
If you wish to do realtime mpeg 2 captures with typical avi cards, try mainconcept 1.4.1. It has a captrue tool who works amazing! Blows away any other mpeg 2 realtime software solution (IMHO alway)
