  1. Since my Pioneer DVDROM will not work with DVDShrink I've decided to purchase a new one (that's how much I like DVDShrink). Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

I would like to purchase one at Best Buy locally instead of paying $12-$18 s&h on ebay. I know the Liteon brand is probably the best but Best Buy doesn't sell those. At least their website doesn't advertise them. I haven't actually been to check the store yet.

Could anyone suggest another inexpensive drive that works with DVDShrink?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

  2. Save yourself some money and download DVD Decrypter. Its free and works better than shrink for ripping. Use it to rip the DVD's to your HD and then use shrink on the ripped files.

  3. Thanks bugster but I've used DVD Decryptor but I'd like to be able to shrink certain files. I really don't know which file names go with the parts I want to shrink. Thanks for your suggestion.

If you want a lite-on check Wal-Mart. Also check out www.pricewatch.com

  5. I agree on the saving bucks idea. Before you run into the streets, do a little homework on shrink and other software you are using. Like: what version of shrink are you using? I have a standalone Pioneer player, and it seems like it doesn't like the versions of Shrink all the same way. (Likes the newer versions more...) But I had to fool around with Nero a bit before IT worked flawless... But right now, ANY DVD I write works on ANY DVD-ROM I could lay my hand on.

DVd decrypter doesn't shrink, it just rips to your HD. Use it to RIP ALL the files from the DVD-Video to your HD. Then use DVD Shrink on THOSE RIPPED files to produce the shrinked version. Using shrink in this way is exactly the same as using it directly on a DVD in a ROM drive.

  7. Thanks to everyone.

I have tried all versions of DVD Shrink with the same results.

Now I'm going to use DVD Decryptor to HDD to DVD Shrink (as bugster suggested) but I really wanted to cut out one step if I could.

If all else fails I'm headed to WalMart.

    Thanks again for your help.
