  1. hi,
i'm trying to open avi files with the virtual dub app, but the same error keeps poping up: A Pentium Pro instruction not supported by the CPU was executed in module 'xvid', what should i do?
    thx,bye

  2. What CPU do you have?

  3. I'm surprized DivX didn't give the same message.

What the guy above is getting at is that CPU's like Pentium I, AMD K6-2 came out before Pentium Pro Instruction set.

The Pentuim Pro CPU turned out so physically large that Intel decided on a new package, The Pentium II (Slot-1), keeping most of the internal architecture of the Pentium Pro.

If you have Pentium II or later your shouldn't be having these problems.

  4. hi,
well the DivX works fine, although i occasionaly suffer from sound delay (and from what i've read theres nothung really i can do about it - my virtual dub doesn't work)
    AND - I've got P3 500 - so it should work, isn't it?
    thx,

  5. You shouldn't be seeing that message with a P3.

Maybe uninstall XviD, and download a new version.

  6. already did that..
and on other computers the app works - on the same files,
and also on every file, before the error msg, it says VBR audio stream something

  7. Well then, VirtualDub is know not to like VBR-Audio (Variable Bit Rate). What you should try is a variation of VDub like NanDub?

    Other choices might be:
VDub MP3 Freeze - Made for VBR audio
VirtualDubMod - can be set to tolerate VBR audio

Personally, i would extract the audio and convert to CBR (Constant Bit Rate).
