  1. Saw this offer.

Wondering if anyone has used this service.

Sure, it takes all the fun out of doing it yourself, but for $30 a DVD, sounds reasonable for converting some old VHS home movies until DVD-RW's come down in price. I'm gonna sign up for the freebie, but would be interested to hear from anyone who might have used them (as far as the service, quality of the conversion, etc.)

  2. sounds good!
making your own VCDs is good but I have a concern regarding future compatibility with other players. Already there are CD players that wont play CDRs. I'd hate for some future DVD players not recognizing VCDs made on CDRs.
It seems this service would generate a "generic" DVD with broadest compatibility.
$30 a tape +$6 S&H is pretty steep tho! I'll have to go see how many 8mm tapes I have stuck in the back of the drawer...

  3. Maybe I'm a bit out of touch. Now I know that most OLD CD players won't read CDR's, but I was under the impression that most new ones were being made so they can read CDR's.

Are you aware of a new trend in which they are dropping CDR support?
