I'm new to TV capturing. I recently bought a WinTV GO. I have installed the btWinCap drivers. The WinTV software obviously doesn't work anymore. All the other software I try can only tune to a couple channels. I found that I can tune to all the channels fine using DScaler and scanning the USA Cable HRC frequencies. I'm guessing that means I get the HRC cable frequencies out here? Is there any good software for capturing video that can tune to the HRC frequencies? Am I just totally lost? Thanks in advance for your help.

Unrelated question: After I close DScaler, I can still hear the TV sound. How do I turn it off? Thanks again.

I don't know the answer to your first question, but you can [Mute] the audio input using Windows Volume Control either in Control Panel or on the Start Menu / Accessories then Entertainment menu. You may need to customize it's view just to show the proper input (line-in?). You can do this with Options then the Properties menu.

    Good luck.

Just look on the left panel in the tools section for capture apps free and otherwise. Most of them have a tuner selection built into the prog. When you install new drivers it is necessary to tell the tuner whether you are on the pal system or ntsc. There is usually also an "on air" or "cable" selector option including in most cases an auto tuner frequency finder. Once it's all set up then the app will store these in an ini file or the system registry so it knows which frequencies correspond to which channel for your tuner card. If you choose air (as in antenna) or if you choose composite or svideo (external to the tuner) input then you will be limited by those selections to whatever you have connected to those jacks.

I had one experience where Dscaler was able to tune and the btwincap drivers could not and that was because the tuner drivers had not installed properly. Somehow Dscaler uses its own internal method to detect a tuner and it worked in that program. To check this go to the device manager.. control panel.. system devices .. sound video ... and see if the tuner device is listed.

    Now your second question.

This seems to be a problem with dscaler. To me it's a bug in the close down process of Dscaler. It seems to close but not release the driver almost like a small crash. I just load another another small capture app right after I close Dscaler and then shut it down immediately. The second app takes control of the audio driver and closes it properly. If you mute the sound card driver through the volume control then you may forget to reset it next time you capture and it will remain muted until you change it again since the volume control remembers the last setting.
