    ...the CQ method of encoding in TMPGEnc? In other words, if the size of the file increases as you increase the quality towards 100, is there a calculation of how much bigger the file gets with each increase in quality? I use this method alot and try to use the DVDrhelp bitrate calculator but I'm interested to know how I can "max-out" my quality.

  2. the roblem with CQ is the filesize is unpredictable. If the video is very noisy and no smoothing filters, it will eat up as many bits as required (up until the max) until the correct quality level is attained.

    Let me give extreme example. You hjave a video, 1 hour long, and compriosed of nothing but black. All black, perfect black, and nothihg but. The filesize will be very small even at CQ 100.

    Then encode a movie with fire and guns and lots of water 1 hour long. It will be MASSIVE.

    Multipass VBR is the only reliable way to get a desired filesize everytime. (Or cbr of course)
