    The source is a vob-file which has been put on my harddrive by dvddecrypter and shrinked by dvd2dvdr. It is definitely PAL (25fps). I am not converting willingly to NTSC.
    Maybe the detour with avisynth is causing the trouble...

    So the VOB file is already in 25fps, and you're trying to convert it to an MPEG at 25fps - there should be no problem there....

    Did you try opening the file in VirtualDubMod, or VirtualDub MPEG2?

    Your VOB files, do they only have one audio track? What about subtitles? Because if it's just the video, and one audio track, do this: rename the VOB file from whatever.vob to whatever.mpg. Then open TMPGEnc, open your mpg file (the one that used to be a VOB file), go to the File menu, click Output to File, then AVI file. Select your compression, then save the avi file. Now try opening that file in VirtualDub, or a video player, and seeing if it's jerky.

  3. For ease, maybe try nic's mpegsource plugin

    Also if it's a 4:3 video (liek a tv show, not widescreen) Then you must also reize. Mpeg2 wil resize duing playback but AVI will not. So try this after you put the mpegsource plugin in your avisynth plugin directory.

    If it is interlaced youll want to deinterlace probably
    mpegsource("file.vob").decomb().lanczosresize(640, 480)
    (or 512,384 or 720,540 or any other 4:3 res you like that top and bottom divide evenly into 16)

    768,576 if it is interlaced source and you want to keep it interlaced. Resizing vetrtically will ruin interlaced video if you want to keep it interlaced.

    Note there are many other deinterlacing methods available, read some guides and see which works best for you. If it's progressive then go ahead and remove the decomb() and resize whatever res you want that the top divided by the bottom is 1.333 (4:3)

    Jerkineess, u dunno. Make a vcd or svcd or dvd small sample burned onto RW. See if it's jerky on your standalone DVD player. It may be your decoder filter making it jerky perhaps.

  4. It worked finally with virtualdubmod. Thank you for your support!!!
    But……I’m still not satisfied with the quality of the letterboxed material. So I decided to go the other way around: Converting the deleted scenes which are letterboxed into anamorphic.
    I already managed to do that with virtualdubmod (Cropping off 72 from top and bottom, resizing it to 720x576).
    Now I would like to get the best possible picture quality. In virtualdubmod and in tempenc + are a lot of settings I don’t understand. Could you just recommend to me which button I should bring to which position in both applications? That would be fantastic!!! Thanks again to all supporters!
