I have an Abit NF7-S Rev. 2.0 and use the onboard sound. The motherboard does not have a gameport but I want to use my old gamepad. My question is, can I install and use my old Creative Ensoniq just for the gameport while still using my onboard sound? If yes, how do I go about it? Should I install the complete drivers for the Ensoniq?
Thanks

Bladestorm,
I'm going to have a stab in the dark here. Hopefully, this will work.
If you go to: Start --> Control Panels --> System (classic view)
Then: Hardware tab --> Device Manager button
You will find a section called "Sound, video and game controllers". I think it will display both the sound output devices, and if you right-click on the one you don't want and disable it, then right click on the one you do want and enable it, you will get the sound output you like. It should also leave the game port enabled, so you can use the card.
Unless anyone else can say for sure what's going to happen here, I'd say to give it a shot and see what happens. What have you got to lose?
Good luck,

I do something like that in one of my PCs. Both audio devices will show up, you just set the better one to be the "preferred" device. If you're using a recent version of Windows you probably won't have to install any drivers.

And if you have any headaches, you can always buy a USB-Gameport adapter...

I just downloaded the manual for your motherboard. Took me awhile to comprehend it, as my Chinese is quite rusty
, but it looks like a nice motherboard. I noticed it's nVidia-controlled? Have you had any noteworthy problems with it?

Well I installed the old soundcard and booted to the desktop then locked-up. I re-booted and it gets to the Win 2000 loading screen and stays there. I guess i'm just going to have to buy a new gamepad!

If there's a 'Reset Configuration Data' option in your BIOS, do that and then reboot. I have the manual pdf on a hard drive I can't access right at this moment, but I suspect this might allow Windows to work around whatever PCI conflict just erupted...
