  1. I have tried searching thru various posts for this but never really found a direct answer.

When making a DVD I usually use Smart Ripper or DVD Shrink to rip the DVD. After the VOB files are made I then use DVD2AVI to compress them to AVI and turn the audio into 2 channel mode so it sounds more balanced.

I set my AVI compression to Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec v1... compression control set to 100, keyframe every 8 seconds and my data rate at 3000.

Once the file is turned into a seperate wav file and avi file I then use TMPGenc to encode it.
(usually I set it to NTSC Low Resolution to fit atleast 2 movies on a dvd) I set it to "Interlace" Top Field First A, 16:9 525 line NTSC.

Since most of the DVD are widescreen and look stretched out on my tv, I click on "clip Frame" from there under arrange setting I set it to Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio).

However the audio is not the best sounding so I try to use another program "Toolame" within TMPGenc to do the audio for me, But I get a error message from TMPGenc saying "Toolame cannot be used as an external encoder" So I am forced to use the one built in TMPGenc. Is there a way I can fix this?

However my question is after making my DVD's this way and one day buying a widescreen 16:9 tv will these bars still appear? Or will the image look really distorted and the bars still be there?

  2. Not meaning to start anything, but why are you going through all this if you are "making a DVD movie"? Why not just burn the ripped VOB files (shrinking as necessary)?

If your trying to put 2 movies on dvd. Theres a better way of doing it.
Use DVD Shrink and re-author it. Or use DVD2ONE. Just set both
    at 2000MB or near.

  4. I should have added this to my post originally but I am using Roxio to get the movies on the DVD.

When using any type of DVD Ripping programs and putting those VOB files in Roxio I get error messages saying it does not accept AC3 audio.

Is there a way to trick Roxio to accept it? Like turning the movies into ISO files or something.

I don't have Nero yet, is that the best software for burning the DVD?

  6. how does iso buster work? i'm trying to put atleast 2 movies on a DVD, do I make these VOB files first and then run them thru iso buster?

  7. Well, isobuster extracts the mpeg files from the vob files. Your question though was talking about roxio and it giving you errors. Instead of using nero (I use it and am happy with it), you could use isoshrink, which used in conjunction with dvdshrink will, using totally freeware tools, go from dvd to dvdr.

  8. Thank you, ISO Buster seems to be a very useful software to have though so I am glad I downloaded it.

Where do I get ISO Shrink? Is it some option I am missing within the DVD Shrink software?
