    file: divx met ac3
    ac3 bitrate :448
    time :2 hours ,1 minute,12sec.
want to convert to 1 dvd.

i use dvdrhelp bitrate calculator, and i get a bitrate of :4574
so i use 4574 as constant bitrate in mainconcept encoder/video settimgs....after 2 hours i get a file as big as 5,,2 gb.
what did i do wrong , need i another setting with ac3
    or what went wrong???

  2. Hmm, dunno. Your figures look right to me and the dvdrhelp bitrate calculator has never let me down.

Maybe MainConcept didn't correctly keep the bitrate at what you requested. Maybe one app thinks a kbyte is 1000 bytes, the other thinks it is 1024!! Maybe it was full moon

Anyway, open your mpeg in bitrate viewer to see what the actual bitrate is. This might help to track down where things have gone wrong.

  3. Working it out manually, I get a similar figure (4645kbps). I think this bitrate that the calculator is giving may include audio and overheads. By my workings, your video only should have a bitrate of 4197kbps. I assumed a DVD holds 4250MB, and you are keeping the 448kbps AC3.

    Hope this helps,

ac3 in as audio ,and then i use ntsf with lpcm(audio)in mainconcept
    maincon.....have no problems with ac3 ,tmpgenc don't accept ac3

is that maybe why the file gets to big

If you are using LPCM you must calculate with 1536 kbit/s for the audio.

but you can replace the lpcm audio with the smaller ac3 audio,

  8. Try using a variable bit rate as opposed to constant. This should free up more room for you on the disc.
