Capturing AVI with Webcam

Hello,

I would like to capture AVIs with my webcam, but the software that came with it does not support it. It only stores EXE-Files, which is helpful if you don't have the right media player available, but it is bad for converting to other formats.

My Webcam is a SMILEVision U1 PC Camera (USB) and supports the VfW drivers. The company went out of business about a year ago, so there is no support from that side.

Can somebody recommend a software that I can use instead with my SMILEVision Webcam or does anybody have an idea how I can convert those EXE-files to an AVI or MPG.
I can send a small sample movie if necessary.

If it has VFW drivers then it can capture to virtualdub. I can with my logitech, but the capture quality isn't great.
