  1. I did a search for this but couldn't find anyhting that answered my questioned, so here goes:

I'm wanting to get the above dvd recorder and read in a couple threads that people bought it at Office Max for $80 bucks packaged as "Pacific Digital." And I read others that said they got an NEC recorder in same packing, etc, etc. Is there anyway of knowing if I'll get a LiteOn 8111s when I get it via "Pacific Digital" or is it just up to chance?

And why is it packaged as "Pacific Digital"? Are these used drives or something? Please forgive my ignorance in this matter. Just don't quite understand.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  2. If you buy the Pacific Digital Mach-8 8X drive, you will get the Liteon 811S drive. I am sure because the sticker on mine says so. I have also sucessfully updated my drive's firmware with the new firmware downloaded from Liteon's web site.
Also I am very sure that the drive is new. On the sticker it also stated that my drive was manufactured in November, 2003.
I have not had a chance to burn at 4x or 8x because I am still using the cheap 2.4x CompuUSA branded DVD+R and 2x Sony DVD-R disks. However I haven't had a coster yet. So at this moment I have nothing to complain.

this is called re-badging and happens with every piece of computer kit (except cpus). Sometimes a re-badged drive might differ in some form or function from the original eg different case, but in general with dvd writers the specs are'nt changed. These drives would be new. Also of course they are supported by pacific digital rather than Liteon et al.
    liteon 811s nice drive..god speed.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
