  1. okay, this may seem weird, but i'm converting mpeg1 (what my tvr records) to .mov and .aiff (by demuxing first) to remove commercials in quicktime pro. after i'm done, i save as a standalone .mov (which winds up being huge). this .mov has a noticeable loss in quality. from the original mpeg1.
can anyone offer some suggestions on encoding a .mov for watching on a tv? i'll be encoding to mpeg2 (to burn on a DVD with sizzle) when i'm done, if that's of any consequence.

    thanks.

The AIFF is actually a sound format, and as uncompressed PCM it should be huge. But .MOV is not a format; but rather a Quicktime container, so it would probably be in your best interest to convert it to a better codec at a higher bitrate for quality.

I think you should do this. still a painful process but you will keep your quality.

I'm assuming you want to burn to dvd... and that your tvr mpg1s are vcd compliant.
    1. Edit the mpeg1s by mpgtx GUI (complex) or gumby (easy when it works)

    2. Demux the mpeg1s into elementary video (m1v) and audio (mp2)

    3. re-encode the audio so the sampling freqency is 48 KHz. (ffmpegX)

    4. Author in desired program. (DVDSP or Sizzle)

Hopefully these instructions aren't too broad.

  4. update:
whoops, it seems my tvr streams are mpeg2. i edited them with mpgtx and they're ready to go. however, sizzle doesn't like the mpeg2 streams ("appears to be from an SVCD, PVR, etc."). what do i have to do to make these standard mpeg2 files?

edit: also, when i joined the cut mpeg2s with mpgtx, it plays fine in quicktime, but quicktime kinda pauses at each point where the mpegs were joined. i have to fastforward manually to get it to go on. am i making sense?
