  1. Perhaps a silly question. However, my friend bought a movie dvd from Hong Kong and the disk labelled as dual layer 186 minutes. When being played with her Sony and my Pioneer DVD players, it has only 96 minutes of 8 chapters and obviously the rest of the movie are missing. We used Display key, the information we got is only 96 minutes. I just want to know if we have to push some keys to see the second half of the movie or the disk itself is wrong.

  2. If it really is duel layer it sould play both on its own. About the only issue is that I think is sometimes you can see the layerchange. A pause for a few moments or so. Never seen it myself but I read that someplace or heard it someplace... you know how that works. So never mind the 2ned part of my comment.

  3. It might not be duel layer. It might be a flipper as in you have to turn the disk over to play the rest. If both sides look shiny and dont have an image on them that might be the prob. You can get info off the inner ring of the CD by the hole. Side A or B.

  4. the longer time u posted may be the time incuding extras on the dvd?? the packaging should tell u if its a dvd5 or a dvd9 which is a dual layered disc, and as quite alot of comercial dvds are dual layered all should play perfectly in almost all players

  5. Not all DVD players will play DVD +/-R at the moment. Personally I would expect similiar or worse compatibility issues with Dual Layer media. As always it will be down to media quality and player compatibility. SO the answer is 'it depends'.

If its PURPLE on the recorded size then its not DUAL LAYER

If its silver or gold.then is replicated and could be dual layer

Later this year there will be dual layer BURNABLES..but not even CHINA has em yet!

copying a dual layer replicated disc to the Dual LAYER recordable (not yet released) ill probably not be a straitfoward copy acrosss routine..EXPECT HOLLYWOOD to throw a monkey wrench into the works befor then!

it's possible that it is improperly authored, and the tag informing the player to pick up the second layer is not there or not being received.

at the end of the 96 minutes does it end abruptly (like mid-scene or mid sequence), or is it the end of the feature?

  8. Thank you for all the answers. The DVD I mentioned is labelled as DVD9. Oneside is color printed with the title of the movie. According to the info you have given, I guess this disk itself is a bad and possibly pirated one because the overall picture quality is bad.

    DVD-9 is DUAL LAYER

these are made by precision GLUEING of 2 discs
THER ARE GLUED TOGETHER after replication

The disc 's non labelled side is SILVER or GOLD

Ifthe disc IS PURPLE its not REPLICATED (mass duplicated) but BURNED

a pirate could print anything he/she wants on the disc, REGARDLESS
