Hello
I have just bought a new Evesham computer with Pinnacle Studio Version 8 SE and Instant CD/DVD installed. I had installed Studio Deluxe Version 8 with the blueBOX attached on my old computer. As I need to import analogue input from my camcorder I required the blueBOX to be fitted on my new computer, I have deinstalled the Evesham supplied Pinnacle software using ‘Add or Remove Programmes’. Not all the Pinnacle folders were deleted and so I did this manually.
After I fitted the hardware I ran the Studio Deluxe setup. 60% through the setup I received 2 messages ‘Error reading software license information’. I completed the installation, but cannot open the Pinnacle Studio program as I get the message ‘Problem with Studio 8 license installation. Please install Studio 8 to resolve the problem’.
I have repeated the installation process a number of times without success. I have also been to the Pinnacle support web site and have downloaded and installed ‘regfix2.zip’ as well as ‘RegDelete’. Each time I have tried to reload the program I still get the same error messages and inability to open Pinnacle Studio.
I suspect there is some legacy info with the windows registry. Is there a manually way of removing all reference to Pinnacle using ‘regedit.exe’?
What is the difference between Studio Deluxe Version 8 and the SE version and can I input analogue data on the latter? Clearly I would prefer to use the Studio version.
Grateful for some advice on how I can overcome this installation difficulty.
Thanks
Brian

Question
During the installation of Studio 8, I get a License Error.
Answer
There are 2 possible times where you can get the License error with Studio that we are aware of, (1) when you are installing Studio and (2) when you are launching Studio. Case #1, getting the License error during install, is the more common of the two failures. Solutions to both problems are listed below.
Case #1. License error when you are installing Studio.
Overview: We have been able to reproduce this by
(a) installing a copy of the Studio Trial
(b) uninstalling the trial,
(c) installing a full version of S8 that has a lower revision number than the trial.
There may be other ways to cause this error and this is the one way in which we have been able to reproduce it. How it is caused is not as important on how to fix the issue.
To resolve the issue, follow these steps:
1A. If you get the License error on install, continue with the install and do not cancel.
Studio still will run, even though you get this error. The problem will be that the HollywoodFX effects may not be listed in the transition pulldown menu or if they are listed, they may be watermarked, even though you have installed HFX Plus or Pro previously.
1B. If you purchased HollywoodFX Plus or HollywoodFX Pro, make sure you have the serial number handy. If you don't have it, then click on Start -> Programs -> Pinnacle HollywoodFX -> Easy FX editor. Then click on the “About” button. Print the screen that appears and keep it with your HFX and Studio 8 CD's.
1C. Go to the Studio 8 support page and download the HollywoodFX 4.6.7 installer to your normal download area or the desktop.
Click here to download HFX 4.6.7
1D. Install HollywoodFX 4.6.7 by double-clicking on the icon. When prompted, type in your HollywoodFX serial number for Plus or Pro. If you did not purchase either Plus or Pro, then type in the serial number for HollywoodFX basic which is part of Studio 8.
HFX Basic sn: HFX46-BAS-999999-45H
Follow any on screen instructions.
How the HollywoodFX transitions will appear in the transition pulldown menu and whatever additional effects that you purchased (i.e. Plus or Pro, will now be free of the watermarks). You will still have watermarks on any effects that you have not purchased.
NOTE: If you uninstall and reinstall Studio 8 for some reason in the future, you will most likely get the License error during the reinstall and just continue with the install and then install HFX 4.6.7 (or whatever is current at that time).
1E. Install the latest patch of Studio 8. If you have already downloaded the patch, double-click on it and follow the installation instructions. If you have not downloaded it, then click on Help -> Software Updates from within Studio and it will check our website for the most current version. If it determines you don't have the current version, it will prompt you to download and install the latest Studio patch.
We recommend you keep a copy of the 8.5.21 patch and the HFX 4.6.7 in a safe place on the hard drive.

Dear Pinnacle,
Many thanks for the reply. I tried as you recommended without success.
On reinstalling the Pinnacle Studio Version 8 SE version instead of my Studio Deluxe Version 8, an Evesham Computer bigfix message came up which stated:
ADVISORY: Pinnacle Studio version 8.8
Your machine is preinstalled with Pinnacle Studio version 8.8, following a technical bulletin Evesham technology recommend that you do not update the software to any later version at this time.
When we receive an update on this situation we will inform you via BigFix or our Website, please do not upgrade if you are advised to by any source other than ourselves
I await a response from Evesham as to why I cannot update to Studio Deluxe Version 8 in order to access the full functionality of the programme.
Grateful if Pinnacle can comment why I cannot load my licensed and registered Pinnacle software onto an Evesham computer.
Thanks

Did you uninstall the Studio lite that came on your computer when you bought it? If not you need to do a uninstall of Studio.
Reboot.
Then run Pinnacle Regdelete. You can download it form this link:
http://pinnaclesys.com/docsupport1.asp?division_id=1&langue_id=7&product_id=577&produc...08&page_id=151
When you run RegDelete, choose to remove Studio 8, not all Pinnacle products, just Studio 8.
Reboot.
Reinstall Studio 8. If you get the license error again, reboot and install again. Once you have it installed, install the ver. 8.10.4c patch.
I would install the Deluxe version of Studio 8. Obviously you have Deluxe with BOB (Break out Box). The deluxe version has the drivers on the content disk. The latest drivers are 2.0.0.27. If you need them, get them at this link:http://pinnaclesys.com/docsupport1.asp?division_id=1&langue_id=7&product_id=577&produc...me=&page_id=67 Try the install and follow the directions. I've had to do this myself. I rebooted and installed again without getting the license error the second time. After getting it installed, install the latest patch of verison 8.10.4c from this link.

I also recommend joining the Studio 8 users board at this link:

Good Luck and post back, or I'll see you at the Studio users board.Geronimo -

Many thanks - your suggestion worked and I can now access the Deluxe Version of Pinnacle Studio V8.0. The only issue I need to address is the correct driver for my card and brakeout box.
It was working with the Studio SE version ie. I could input from an analogue camcorder. However after loading Version 2.0.0.27 it stopped and I can only read digital. I will try Version 7.1.100.1248 (the second Hardware Installer for Studio Deluxe).
At least I can access the programme. Thanks also for the link to Studio 8 user board.
I am most grateful for your help.

Brian,
The next older driver for your board is the 2.0.0.26, here's the link:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/supportfiles/StudioAVDVHardwareInstall.exe
The next older driver would be 2.0.0.22, which are not Win XP certified, but they work anyway. I used these drivers for close to a year. I did try the 2.0.0.26 drivers but I got some dropped frames which I did not get woth the 2.0.0.22 drivers.
I can't give you a link to the 2.0.0.22 drivers until this eve when I get home from work.
But you can try the .26 drivers.Geronimo
