  1. I'm trying to capture only audio from a digital video source. So far the way I've been doing it is to capture the video & audio together then use TMPGEnc to separate the video & audio when it encodes. I'm sure there must be a better way ? Any help please.

Use the RCA left and right output from your cam. You will need a y-adapter that has the male RCA connectors on one end and a female 1/8" stereo headphone connector on the other. You will also need an audio connector that has a 1/8" male stereo headphone plug on each end. One end goes into the y-adapter coming out of your cam and the other end goes into your PC's soundcard auxilliary input. Both the cables can be found at Radio Shack for around $5. Then use any software that allows you to record from your soundcard's input such as Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition.

    Yea, what Teegee said.

Although I do the same thing as you do, I capture the audio and video together but I use Sonic Foundry or CoolEdit 2000 to get just the audio, that way I have the option of output formats, I usually only want wav or mp3.

Save as DV, open in Virtualdub and select 'save wav'.

Do as Will said. There is no better way, as DV audio always needs Video for synch too. With DV, audio "capture" alone is not possible.
